“The saga of Sergio Fiorentino’s SAGA-recordings” Sergio Fiorentino made his first commercial recordings for the very small and too ‘adventurous’ label Concert Artist, owned and managed by William Halford Barrington-Coupe. SAGA was a small but enterprising company in the late fifties. SAGA eventually passed into liquidation and the repertoire was acquired by ‘Allied Records / Associated Performances / Art & Sound’. The new owners continued to reissue periodically the original SAGA performances, retaining the old catalogue numbers or also using new ones. This accounts for the many ‘versions’ of the same recordings with different sleeves, differently coloured labels and even stereo releases some of which are clearly ‘fake stereo’. SAGA released 10 albums by Fiorentino, that are finally collected for the first time in this CD release. [booklet notes by Ernst Lumpe] |
